Should you renovate during a lockdown?

Should you renovate during a lockdown?

Australians have had some major changes happen to their lifestyle options in the past few months. With most of the country spending more time at home than ever before, it’s no wonder we’re looking at home renovation projects to fill our time, but what are the best projects to focus on whilst in lockdown? We go over some options, be it DIY renovations or getting in the professionals.

Now is the time to start planning

We’ve seen bottlenecks in many different industries from retail, health and online shopping. Some of these bottlenecks have happened instantly (like finding toilet paper in the first few weeks of the COVID-19 restrictions) and others will take some time to come to fruition.

Residential building projects and renovations are likely to see a huge surge of interest in the coming weeks as more and more people take advantage of spare time and low interest rates to get around to those renovation projects they’ve been putting off for far too long.

Another point to consider is should you need council approval for a project, it’s likely you’re going to experience longer wait times when lodging any planning approvals. Councils are already seeing a spike in application submissions and we’re expecting this trend to continue in the coming months as more people start thinking about the home renovations they would like to have completed.

The expected drop in house prices could mean less equity in your home

We’ve all heard on the news, no doubt, there’s an expected slump in house prices coming in the next few months. A drop in the residential housing market will mean less capital for people to access for renovation projects so if you’ve been thinking about a new kitchen or bathroom, now may be a good time to organise finance and construction before the downturn in housing prices continues to drop.

This combined with all-time low interest rates means plenty of opportunity for savvy homeowners. Obviously your ability to work and budget needs to be considered carefully or with the advice of a finance professional or financial advisor.

Uncertain times means flexible work options

Everyone in Australia is feeling a little off-kilter at the moment given the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic. We don’t know how long restrictive laws are going to last and it could be many months before life gets back to normal for all of us.

Given this is the case, many organisations have had to change the way they do business, Titan360 included. If you’re looking for more flexibility in a construction project, now, more than ever, renovation, building and construction companies are willing to work with you to make sure your project is completed, but also suit your current situation. Now is the time to talk with someone about your renovation project.

We’re now more available than ever

With a sharp increase in the move to virtual meetings, business owners who usually travel to meetings all over the city are suddenly finding they have much more time in their day.

Here at Titan360, we’ve found that since offering virtual meetings to clients we have the ability to speak with more people, more often throughout the day. This is great if you want to catch up with your renovation company to talk about ideas, the progress of the job or any design changes you’re considering.

A move to makeovers

If the housing market does make the drop it’s expected to take, many people might be a little gun-shy about large scale renovation projects before they sell their homes. This is completely understandable which is why we’ve now introduced a new pre-sale home makeover service where we can give your home a ‘makeover’ that doesn’t include total renovations. A makeover will include things like:-

  • High-pressure cleaning
  • Landscaping and general garden maintenance
  • Handyman services
  • Presentation advise & home staging
  • Paving & tiling
  • General maintenance & repairs

This gives homeowners the opportunity to have their home presented in the best possible light prior to the house going on the market which can help to increase the overall sale price and interest in the property.

If you would like some more information, advice or would simply like to talk about your renovation project, please call us on 0481 536 900 to speak with a renovation professional today.
